Funding will help digital/mobile company create six jobs in Miramichi

Miramichi Leader SAMANTHA MAGEE

Miramichi (07/04/2014) – Premier David Alward has announced more than $70,000 in funding to help out a new mobile and software company here on the river.

The provincial government will invest $76,500 in Eggroll Digital Studios, which is creating six jobs in Miramichi, through the New Brunswick Digital Media Development Program.

“Our digital media development program is working, creating new opportunities and jobs throughout New Brunswick, including the Miramichi region,” said the premier who made the announcement at the company’s offices on Friday morning in the Chatham Industrial Park.

“This program is designed to assist New Brunswick companies in developing intellectual property by providing a salary rebate for eligible full-time positions,” he said in a government news release.

The program provides funding to provincial companies through a non-repayable 30-per-cent salary rebate of up to $15,000 per full-time employee, per year. It is only provided for employees who are New Brunswick residents. The total rebate is not to exceed $500,000 per year, per corporation on an associated company basis.

Mike White, Egg Roll’s chief executive officer, said the company was appreciative of the province’s support.

“We are very thankful for the support of the province,” he said. “Programs like this are so helpful to new companies that need to cover all the upfront expenses and financial hurdles in the first few years before becoming profitable.”

Added White: “I can honestly say that without this kind of support, Egg Roll Digital would not be able to create these job opportunities and retain skilled individuals in New Brunswick.”
