MIRAMICHI (05/07/2014) – Giant Tiger will be roaring to life on Saturday morning in Miramichi.
The chain department store, known for its low-priced items from food to fashion, will officially open for business at 7:35 a.m. after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Alison Scarlett, manager of public relations and community activation for Giant Tiger, said they are going to have fun activities for the entire family to celebrate their grand opening.
“In addition to gift cards and promotional giveaways, some of the things that the residents of Miramichi can look forward to are our Giant Tiger photo booth, Giant Value samplings, free face painting, local entertainment throughout the day and a charity barbecue,” said Scarlett in a previous interview with the Miramichi Leader.
The barbecue will see proceeds donated to James M. Hill Memorial High School and Miramichi Valley High School for their respective Safe Grad initiatives.
“Giant Tiger Miramichi will be making a donation to the Miramichi Food Bank as part of our opening ceremonies,” said Scarlett in a recent phone interview from Ottawa. “Giant Tiger stores have a long-standing tradition of supporting food banks in the communities we call home.
In addition to other activities during opening day, the first 50 customers will receive free $10 gift cards and there will also be other promotional giveaways throughout the day.
“Everyone that we have spoken to since announcing our opening has been extremely friendly and welcoming. We are overwhelmed with the positive energy and dynamic spirit of Miramichi,” she said.
According to the Giant Tiger Miramichi Facebook page, there will also be local artists performing at the store throughout the day on a stage in the parking lot.
The Giant Tiger location is 17,300 square-foot and makes up about half of the former Zellers.
Construction began on the Giant Tiger store in the fall of 2013 and is located adjacent to the Northumberland Square Mall at 2441 King George Hwy and next to the Winners department store that is still under construction.
Giant Tiger will employ 30 full-time and part-time workers, said Scarlett.
